Below are some resources of community organizations, advocacy groups and research projects focused on LGBTQI migrant realities.

Chairperson’s guideline 9: Proceedings before the IRB involving SOGIE

These guidelines are for Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) adjudicators (refugee claim decision makers) when they assess refugee claims based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE).

Dignity Initiative

The Dignity Initiative is a national network of organizations and individuals that aim to support Canadian civil society organizations and inform governmental foreign policy related to international LGBTI human rights.

Envisioning Global LGBT Human Rights Project

This is an international and participatory research project that brought together over 30 partners in Canada, Africa, India and the Caribbean in order to develop participatory video and documentary grounded in social justice and equality for LGBT people.

Organisation Intersex International

This is a decentralized global network of intersex organizations across Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Please see website for the full list of organizations.

Organization for Refuge, Asylum & Migration (ORAM)

This organization develops research, resources, professional training and direct assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. ORAM has developed a number of key publications related to sexual and gender minority refugee and asylum seekers.

OutRight Action International

This organization engages in international LGBTIQ human rights advocacy as global, regional and national levels. Their work includes building capacity, documenting human rights violations and political advocacy.

Micro Rainbow International (MRI)

This organization aims to develop policies, programs and tools for support LGBTI people living in poverty across the globe.

Global Action for Trans Equality (GATE)

This organization is dedicated to human rights advocacy in relation to gender identity, gender expression and bodily diversity. Their areas of work include HIV, movement building with directly affected communities and depathologization.

Centre for Transnational Development and Collaboration (CTDC)

The CTDC delivers research-informed educational, capacity building and advocacy projects dedicated to promoting the human rights of marginalized gropus (i.e. women, sexual minorities, refugees, etc). This centre recently completed a project to better understand the realities of people with non-normative sexualities and genders living in the MENA region.
